March 2007
March sees Defhead packing our bags and heading over to the USA to cover the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival. Our very own Razor, of Snakes and Razor's Musical Evacuation Pod fame, will be (hopefully) sending regular and informative reports throughout the festival (although there is the distinct possibility of incomprehensible rubbish, but it should be fun either way). So be sure to tune in for that and check out the festival website at sxsw.com.
As well as bringing you SXSW, March sees us launch a redesigned (and much prettier) site, replete with brand spanking new features! The first feature to launch is our Correspondent Program, if you think you have what it takes to cover YOUR local music scene be sure to check out our call for correspondents and drop us a line!
On the Live Webcasts side of things, we are having a brief hiatus over March and coming back bigger and better at the beginning of April! Very Exciting! So be sure to check back regularly for our big super mind blowing announcement of our next act next week!
Out!
February 2007
This month will see Defhead teaming up with the Playground Weekender festival to bring y’all two Festival Preview webcasts. And The Cops have just come in and played out the first of these... For those slackers who missed the live webcast, you're in luck as the archive is now up-and-atom and ready for viewing here. We also previewed the Playground Weekender festival venue, via some video footage that's also included in the webcast. And so where-to now?... Later in the month, Defhead will feature a second act from the Playground Weekender line-up — something we’re particularly excited about due to their international nature. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. For now just have a look at the archive of The Cops.
In other news, our questionable buddies Snakes and Razor have been kind enough to sign on to make a bunch of podcasts for Defhead. We're now wondering just how far they'll go in their indulgent rampage... Subscribe here.
January 2007
Red Riders have just left the building after performing a splendid live set to fans both in the flesh and over the networking wires. And now with pleasure we bring you with such haste the archive of the gig, secured in The Vault. Stay tuned as we will be announcing the next act in the coming days.
December 2006
It was a mad rush pulling the debut webcast together. On Tuesday 5th December, Sydney band Dappled Cities Fly piled into the studio with 100 fans in tow, to kick Defhead off to a glorious start. The replay of the webcast is now available to watch online in The Vault.
And then from one mad rush to another - On Tuesday 19th December, fellow Sydney band Expatriate were the subject of our sophomore webcast. Having just finished recording their debut album over in the States, the boys were positively itching to showcase their slinky new sounds and we've sealed all the action here and now in The Vault.
This is indeed a brand new adventure for us, so if you have any comments or suggestions, please contact us.
Britney Spears goes Psycho
SHERMAN OAKS - Britney Spears is back in the U.S., and she's sporting a brand new look. Spears was photographed at the valley tattoo shop "Body and Soul" in Sherman Oaks, getting a tattoo reportedly of a pair of red and pink lips on her wrist. But the biggest change to the pop singer's style? She shaved her head bald.
Spears could be seen inside the tattoo parlor with her head fully exposed, but as she left the shop she was led by her bodyguard straight to a waiting SUV. Spears had her head covered with a hooded sweatshirt to hide her new noggin.
The sidewalk outside the shop was filled with fans, onlookers and paparazzi. Some fans that were interviewed after Spears departed declared the new look less than flattering.
O'Jay's Hey Days gone
PHILADELPHIA -- A longtime member of the O'Jays has sued his former partners and record label over royalties.
Sammy Strain charges in his $15 million civil lawsuit that he never received any royalties from his 16 years with the group, when the O'Jays recorded hits such as "Used to Be My Girl" and "Forever Mine."
The lawsuit, filed last week in federal court in Philadelphia, alleges that O'Jays founders Eddie Levert and Walter Williams conspired to deny Strain his share of the royalties. The lawsuit also names renowned R&B producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff as defendants, and their label, Philadelphia International Records.
The O'Jays, who are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, enjoyed a lengthy and successful collaboration with Philadelphia International Records. Gamble and Huff wrote many of the act's hits. Strain, who lives in New Jersey, replaced original member William Powell in 1976, and remained with the group until 1992, according to the lawsuit. He recorded 11 albums with the O'Jays, three of which went gold and two platinum, it said.
The Official Word on Dappled Cities
SYDNEY - Sydney band Dappled Cities Fly and in particular frontman David Rennick officially suck. This hot new direction comes as the band's limited popularity begins to wane due to their absolute lack of talent, good looks, sense, class and taste.
When asked if he was happy with the development and what inspired the change Rennick had this to say; "I'm a total tard and I've always thought that people should know. Up to this point we'd just been kidding ourselves but I think music is all about honesty and I, and my band really suck, everyone else knows it and we thought it was about time we brought the people what they already knew... you know, we're moving on with our lives!"
With his trail-blazing attitude we were very interested to hear what Rennick, looking super cool with black shades and a finger up his nose, had to say about his future; "I'm thinking suicide" was his short yet tremendously exciting response. Needless to say, the world waits with great anticipation!
